Below I describe the process in which Twisted Luck takes "used" hay and grain from the horses, and turn it into some of the very best compost, and worm castings for your garden, house plants, and soil in general.
Twisted Luck Sustainable Gardening through it's partnerships with Twisted Luck Sport Horses and Second Chance Thoroughbreds, takes the horse manure and shavings from their horse stalls to form compost.
The "used" hay and grain (manure) is then put into piles. From there it is turned every 3 days, keeping air circulated throughout the pile.
Thermometers are used to monitor temperatures through the process. At 145*F pathogens and weed seeds are killed. Turning it keeps the pile below 160*F.
Once this stabilizes it is pre-composed, and ready for sale to the public as compost, or my favorite, it goes to feed the worm bins.
Our Worms, Eisenia fetida (red wigglers), are housed in various CFT (Continuous Flow Through) Bins. Most of our bins are 8'x3'. As we grow we will continue to add more bins. Keep coming back for more updates.
The CFT Bins are set up to harvest Vermicast from the bottom, and feed them from the top...continuous flow.
Our Vermicast is sent off to labs to be tested for Microbial, Fungal, & Nematodes.
The Vermicast is then sifted, bagged, and ready for the final consumer. We offer 5 gallon, and 2.5 gallon bags, as well as bulk worm castings. Shipping can be arranged for anywhere in the USA.
